Linear Welding & Fabrication: The Katy Owner’s Guide

We weld and fabricate Linear gate parts in Katy, including broken hinge brackets, cracked operator mounting plates, bent gate frame sections, and weld-on gate ears for Linear swing and slide operators. Most custom Linear welding and fabrication jobs in Katy run between $225 and $650 installed, depending on the part, how much disassembly is involved, and whether we need to remove the gate leaf to work on it at the shop bench. We stock common Linear-compatible brackets and fabrication blanks on our trucks, and Adrian Vance has been matching and fabricating Linear hardware in Katy since the company started serving this area.

Here’s how it usually starts: a homeowner notices the gate hangs a little low on one corner. Then it scrapes the driveway. Then someone hits the remote and hears the motor strain while the gate doesn’t move. What they’re looking at is a failed weld or a cracked bracket that’s been slowly giving out for months. Linear operators are built well, but the metal around them takes the abuse, and in Katy’s clay soil and heat that metal moves more than people expect. The good news is this is almost always repairable without replacing the operator, if you catch it before the motor burns out fighting a misaligned gate.

Linear Welding & Fabrication Job Typical Installed Price (Katy) Turnaround
Weld-on gate ear or hinge replacement (single side) $225-$350 Same day in most cases
Operator mounting plate fabrication & weld-in $300-$475 Same day or next day
Cracked gate frame section reinforcement $275-$450 Same day
Full custom bracket fabrication for a Linear slide operator $425-$650 1-2 days depending on complexity

Every price above is written and handed to you before we strike an arc. Haven Standard Clause 1: the number you see is the number you pay, and we photograph the finished weld before we leave.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

We handle welding and fabrication for the full Linear line we see in Katy: the LDO series linear arm operators, the SL and SLR slide gate operators, and the older LS series actuators still running on plenty of Katy properties. The compatibility question matters more for the metal than the motor. A hinge bracket for an SLR slide gate is not the same as one for an LDO swing arm, and the difference is in the hole pattern and the plate thickness. If you can read the model number off the operator’s side label, we can match it. If the label is sun-faded past reading (common after five or six Houston summers), we measure the bracket’s bolt spacing and plate gauge on site.

OEM versus aftermarket is a real decision here. Linear’s OEM brackets are fine, but they’re powder-coated for a national market and in Katy’s humidity that coating fails at the edges first. For weld-on parts, we often fabricate from heavier-gauge steel than the factory piece, and we prime and paint with a rust-inhibiting coating before it goes on. If your OEM bracket cracked because the gate was carrying more weight than the original spec assumed, a thicker fabricated bracket often outlasts the factory part. We’ll show you both options and write a price for each before you choose.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate leaf sags toward the latch side. This means a hinge weld or hinge bracket has cracked and is no longer holding the gate level. The motor fights the extra friction and eventually burns out limit switches or the capacitor.
  • The operator mount makes a clunking sound when the gate starts or stops. The mounting plate has loosened or cracked at the weld points. Every start cycle hammers the crack wider, and the clunk gets louder as the gap grows.
  • You see rust flakes or a visible crack line on a gate bracket or hinge. Katy’s humidity plus the wet-dry cycles of our clay soil create the exact conditions for weld fatigue. A crack you can see is a crack that’s already past half its life.
  • The gate scrapes the driveway on one side. Something above the wheel or hinge has moved. By the time you hear the scrape, the motor has been compensating for weeks and developing its own list of problems.
  • The operator works but the gate barely moves, or stalls halfway. The gearbox and motor are fine; the mechanical load has increased past design spec because a fabricated part has failed. The motor heat from this is usually the first damage that costs real money.

If any of these are happening on your Katy property, the cheapest fix is early. A cracked hinge bracket is a $250 job. A motor replaced because a cracked hinge bracket went ignored for six months is closer to $800 or more.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Most Linear welding and fabrication work on a Katy residential gate lands between $225 and $650, and the range mostly comes down to two things: how much disassembly the part needs, and whether we’re welding in place or pulling the gate leaf and working at the bench. An in-place hinge ear weld is on the low end. A full custom slide-gate bracket that requires cutting out the old mount, fabricating a new one, and fitting it to the rail lands at the top.

Every quote includes the material, the labor, the finish coating, and a photo record of the completed weld. You also get a written part number, material thickness, and weld location so the next technician (if you ever need one) knows exactly what was done. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every weld and fabricated part we install: if the repair is not right within a year, we make it right at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Welding is not a DIY job, and we say that not to protect our schedule but to protect your gate and your hands. A weld that looks good from six feet away can be structurally worthless, and a bad weld on a moving gate becomes a project: it breaks, takes the bracket with it, and often damages the operator in the process. We’ve re-welded plenty of driveway repairs done with a borrowed flux-core machine and good intentions. The rework costs more than doing it correctly the first time.

What you can safely do is measure and photograph. Take a picture of the operator’s model label, measure the bracket’s bolt spacing, and note how the gate sits when it’s fully closed. That information lets us give you an accurate written price before we dispatch. Then call (346) 818-3319 and we’ll take it from there.
