Which FAAC Models This Applies To
We work on the full FAAC residential and light commercial lineup you’re likely to have on a Katy driveway: the 402, 412, 415, 422, 750, 770, 844, S418, S450H, C720, C721, E024S, and the E124. The compatibility gotcha with FAAC is the board generation. An older 450 MPS board expects a dry-contact input from a standalone keypad, while the newer E124 uses a different communication protocol for FAAC’s own KP 20 and KP 27 keypads. Signs Your FAAC Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad buttons light up but the gate doesn’t move. Usually the keypad is sending signal but the FAAC board isn’t receiving it on the input terminals, or the board’s programming has lost the access code.
- Gate opens fine from the remote but not from the mounted keypad. This isolates the problem to the access control input path: keypad, wiring run, or board input. A strip of the terminal block usually shows corrosion from Katy moisture.
- Card reader will not read any fob or card, including new ones. Long-range and proximity readers fail when the internal antenna board cracks from heat cycling or the reader’s voltage dips below spec. The FAAC board can test fine while the reader is dead.

Access control wiring is low-voltage, so the shock risk is minimal compared to gate motors or line-voltage panels. But there is a genuine safety issue: a miswired access control input can leave the gate operator in an undefined state where the gate opens when it should stay closed, or fails to stop for the photo-eye. That’s why we do not recommend a homeowner wire a new FAAC reader without a meter and a strong grasp of normally-open and normally-closed input logic.
What you can safely do is photograph the control board label and the reader model number, clear debris from the reader face, and test whether the gate works from every other input.
